Suraj Adhikari is a pioneering figure in Nepal’s digital landscape, recognized for his instrumental role in introducing web and domain services in the country. In 2000, he spearheaded the initiative to bring major Nepalese publications, including the century-old ‘Gorkhapatra National Daily’ and the widely circulated ‘Kantipur Daily’, online through Nepal’s first news portal, nepalnews.com. This endeavor marked a significant shift, encouraging other media outlets to embrace the internet for content dissemination.
Professionally, Adhikari joined Mercantile Communications in 1999, Nepal’s first Internet Service Provider. There, he held various roles, including Web Coordinator and .np ccTLD Hostmaster, contributing significantly to the establishment and management of the .np domain registry. His dedication to the .np registry, which has been offered as a free service for over three decades, has been pivotal in promoting Nepal’s digital identity archive.icann.org
